"Relationship" - A Tribute to Wayne Kuni

Throughout his life, our company's founder, Wayne D. Kuni, maintained an attitude of genuine respect for individual accomplishment and a desire to help others achieve their goals. In addition, the charitable foundation he created reflected his deep personal and financial commitment to the community. For Wayne, life was all about relationships.

In January 2005, our CEO Greg Goodwin began the process of commissioning a tangible symbol of Wayne's inspiring vision that could be placed in each of our dealerships. Trang Hamm was given the responsibility of bringing ideas back for Wayne's consideration. From the multiple options that were presented, Wayne chose the concept of an abstract glass sculpture.

The resulting piece, the "Relationship" sculpture, was created by local artist Ian Gilula of Elements Glass in Northwest Portland. The posture of the larger piece towards its companion reflects a willingness to mentor, encourage and guide. Meanwhile, similar components of color, light and a spiraling cane that reverses in each piece, highlight the similarities inherent in all human beings and emphasize the integrity of the individual. Subtle turns of black and white cane within the sculptures represent the powerful bond between Wayne and all those whose lives he touched. Finally, the simple pedestal and lighting symbolize life and the pulse of the community.

The "Relationship" sculpture is proudly displayed in all our Kuni dealerships, as well as our corporate office, serving as a lasting tribute to an exceptional individual and beloved mentor. The sculpture symbolizes a relationship that is everlasting, and we are deeply grateful that Wayne was able to participate in its creation.
